One of Madrid's Best Art Spaces
The Barrio de Las Letras is the current home to Madrid's most thriving art scene, as a simple walk through the neighborhood will attest. Only a 5min. walk from the Reina Sofia, Prado Museum, Caixa Forum, and new upstarts like La Fabrica and The Hub, the awesome "i am Gallery" is, in my humble opinion, the best art space in the entire city. So why, you ask? Well, first of all, for the quality of the exhibits and events it holds: it's got a decidedly modern focus, and is dedicated to bringing in the cream of the crop of the local and international artistic vanguard, including even underground music acts from the USA and Mexico.
Second, the employees are among the most warm, friendly, and informative I've ever encountered at an art gallery anywhere. They welcome you with a smile, give you just the right amount of information (enough to orient yourself, but then they thankfully leave you in peace), and explain the meaning of the works and artist profiles if you ask them to.
Finally, it's free and uncrowded, a good thing if you're visiting on a sunny Saturday morning. For art lovers, I'd suggest "i am Gallery" 100%, and hope it'll provide a nice refreshing break from the more stately and "official" art in some of the museums and galleries in the surrounding area. Enjoy!
