House of Jose Maria Morelos
In 1810 Mexico gained independence from Spain. Among the leaders of the war was a great military strategist, Generalissimo Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon, who drafted the first constitution of Mexico. After being demoted to a humiliating "ceremony" held in the palace of the "Holy Inquisition", was sentenced to death, a sentence which was held in San Cristobal Ecatepec on December 22, 1815 In a rude building where the viceroys who came from Spain were staying before entering the city of Mexico, on this site spent his last moments the "servant of the nation." Forced to kneel with his back to the firing squad and blindfolded, a discharge of rifles was not enough to block the life of the leader, so it took a second that ended his life after a cry of pain.
