Jorge Amado Bahia is one of the most globally recognized authors. He was born in 1912, to a family who worked in the cocoa industry. In Pelourinho, you can visit the Foundation (with free admission), which briefly explains his life (in an almost unfair brevity) and in the cafe you can see the covers of his books translated into more than sixty languages.

The Foundation was founded in 1987, and although Jorge Amado never lived in Pelourinho, many of his stories were set here.
