Hotel Des Bains Venice Lido Resort

Hotel Des Bains is a landmark hotel that inspired Thomas Mann's novel, Death in Venice, and was later used in the movie adaptation. The movie is a true classic so visiting this hotel has become an essential part of any trip to Venice. Sadly, I visited a few days after the fire of February 2008, so the hotel was closed. The private beach no longer resembles that of the film...the classic blue and white awnings have vanished and have been replaced by some rather questionable huts. In any case, it's worth visiting the hotel, a true landmark in this most romantic of cities.

The hotel is located in downtown Lido di Venezia, a ten minute walk from the beach and the Piazzale Santa Maria Elisabetta, from where you can reach anywhere in Venice by boat, as well as the main lagoon islands (Murano, Burano and Torcello). It is ideal for those who want to enjoy a natural setting and outdoor activities whether as a family or group of friends. The property is also extensively equipped with a variety of services.
