Hospital of the Charité
This tower of 40 meters high, which is the tallest building in the Great Place Bellecour in Lyon, is what remains of the Charité hospital. Construction first began in 1617. It inspired the construction of several hospitals. It housed a religious community, after the great war, when most of the country was dying of hunger. General hospitals of the kingdom followed later. The fact feed the poorest possible to avoid further marginalization and diseases in the city. The bell tower was built in 1665, and the city of Lyon retained only the tower, after the destruction of the hospital in 1934.
