Typical Leon Menu

The Hospedería Fernando l (Fernando guesthouse) is located on Avenida de los Cubos, just below the cathedral. It is a charming establishment in a small stone house with everything decorated in amedieval style. They have accommodation services (27 rooms), as well as a cafe and a restaurant (open to the general public).

We go quite often to the restaurant. One eats well and they have a very ample menu, with all kinds of appetizers, main courses, meats and fish. The cuisine is basically Castilian (roast suckling pig, ox entrecote, roast baby lamb, etc.), although you can also eat another series of "delicacies" like foie gras or duck confit, wild boar fillets stuffed with goat cheese, and even grilled fish and seafood.

There is a meal of the day for 12 €, which on the weekend rises to 18 €. They also have two tasting menus at 26 € per person: one highly recommended "typical Leon menu" (you must be starving because it is plentiful), composed of starters typical of the parts (cecina, Sahagún leeks, El Bierzo peppers, Chorillo entrecallado, black pudding, smoked tongue, roast ham) and then a main course of either blood sausage a la Leon or bacalao ajoarriero (salted cod cooked with various vegetables mainly garlic and tomato). The other is the "seafood menu."

The price for food off the menu may be around 30 or 35 € per person. Not a cheap place, but one eats well, abundantly, the dishes are beautifully presented and the locale is very pleasant.
