Homage Tower

La Torre del Homenaje es la única de planta cuadrada que tiene el recinto amurallado de Urueña (las otras son semicirculares); se encuentra en el extremo sureste de la villa, junto al mirador de la Anunciada. Es una de las cuatro torres que forman el cuadrilátero del Castillo, del que sólo se conservan los muros exteriores (el interior del recinto es actualmente el cementerio municipal). La torre (y el castillo) fue construida en torno al año 1.060, en sillería y tiene mayor altura que el resto de los cubos de muralla. Junto a la torre se halla el Mirador de la Anunciada, desde donde puede contemplarse el valle y la ermita de la Anunciada (de ahí su nombre). El Castillo de Urueña está declarado [b]Bien de Interés Cultural[/b] y fue mandado construir por Fernando I el Magno sobre los restos de una antigua fortificación romana. Fue utilizado como residencia de ilustres personajes (como Doña Urraca), y posteriormente como prisión.

The Keep is the only square having the walled Urueña (the others are semicircular); It is located at the southeastern end of the village, next to the viewpoint of the Annunciation. It is one of the four towers that form the ring of the Castle, of which only the outer walls remain (inside the enclosure is currently the municipal cemetery). Tower (and castle) was built around the year 1,060, ashlar and is higher than the rest of the wall cubes. Next to the tower is the Mirador de la Anunciada, where you can contemplate the valley and the chapel of the Annunciation (hence its name). Castle Urueña is declared of cultural interest and was built by Ferdinand I the Great on the remains of an ancient Roman fortification. It was used as residence of famous people (such as Doña Urraca), and later as a prison.
