Hogueras de San Juan

Coincidiendo con la festividad de San Juan Bautista, en toda la costa de Huelva se celebran las tradicionales hogueras de San Juan en la playa, a las 12 de la noche del 23 de Junio. Es importante saber no cualquier puede montar una hoguera en la playa, sino que han de estar autorizadas previamente por las autoridades municipales. En concreto, en Islantilla hay dos: una en la playa Central y la otra en la zona de Pescadores. Es muy chulo bajar a la playa y ver el resplandor de los fuegos que se suceden a lo largo de la costa. Cuando se consume la madera y las llamas van bajando, la gente salta las brasas, y los niños queman sus libros de texto, en señal de la finalización del curso escolar y el comienzo de las vacaciones. Además del quemado de las hogueras, durante la noche tienen lugar otras actividades complementarias, como una exhibición de zumba o baile con música DJ.
