Historical Center of Trujillo was the political and economic heart of the area
Founded in the year 1534 by Miguel de Estete and fortified to defend against assaults, it was and is the political and economic heart of the rea of La Libertad. It was the provisional capital of Peru during the independence war and there are dozens of buildings and places of historical value, for example the Plaza Mayor, the Freedom Monument, the Cathedral in the Plaza Mayor or Plaza de Armas, the Church of the Society of Jesus in the year 1640, and the Church of Santo Domingo, along with other places, churches and squares.
