Hervás

This lovely town in located in the North of the province of Cáceres, next to the Ambróz river, Baños of Montemayor, and the Ruta de la Plata. We visited it during the 2010 GS Ibérica trail/path, to get to know some of the hidden places in the area, enjoy the landscapes, as well as to buy some nice leather garments, and to taste the first cherries of the season.

The state of conservation of this typical urban planning proved very interesting to us. The roman bridge, the Jewish neighborhood, the plazas and churches, and since we’re motorcycle aficionados, we were excited to visit the “Temple” dedicated to conserving the classics: The Classic Motorcycle Museum. It’s the best in Europe, without a doubt!

Hervás is one of the towns that most surprised me during my last trip. You’ll fall in love with the town at first sight. Located in an enchanted natural environment, it has something that makes it a magical little town. Walking around the town, it’s outskirts, crossing the bridge where the train used to cross, getting to know its large history, getting lost in the Jewish neighborhood’s winding streets, or just thinking about the religious pilgrims that pass through the town on the way to Santiago for the Way of Saint James pilgrimage.

Just a bit outside of the city, you’ll find the small Valley of Jerte.

Going to Hervás but opting not to walk around the old Jewish quarter or going to Hervás and not taking the time to soak in its atmosphere, enjoy its food and its people is like not even going to Hervás.

Hervás, in addition to being a modern-day urban nucleus for the Serrano flavor, is surrounded by beautiful meadows and mountains (the Sierra of Gredos), and the Ambróz Valley.

It’s one of the most charming places on Earth.
