Adventure, rafting, and wildilfe in Hells Canyon, Idaho
Hells Canyon is a breathtaking river gorged carved out by the mighty Snake River in Western Idaho and parts of Oregon and Washington state and park of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. The best way to see the stunning canyon is definitely by boat, either taking a jet boat, kayaking, or whitewater rafting. To be honest, despite its dramatic name Hell's Canyon has fairly calm waters for rafting. There are a few larger rapids like Wild Sheep rapids but by and large you'll have a relaxing, scenic trip with only a few moments of exhilarating rapids. People looking for something not so physically demanding usually opt for a jet boat tour. If you've never been on a jet boat, they're a sort of covered pontoon boat with motors that float over the rapids while still letting some of the water splash in through the sides. One of the best parts about jet boat rides is that they're usually guided and the guides will explain a little history from the Lewis and Clark days as well as point out animal and areas of the canyon that were used by early Native Americans.
