The Heian Jingu (平安 神宫) is one of the most popular Shinto temples of Kyoto, found facing the largest torii gate in the world. To give you an idea of its size, I'll just say that it passes under a wide road with several lanes (you can see it in one of the photos). It's also characterized by the shape of its roof, which is not common in this area for the time n which it was built, perhaps because, when erected, in 1895 (eleventh centenary of the establishment of Kyoto as the imperial capital), the main sanctuary was designed to imitate the ancient Heian Palace that was in the Kyoto Imperial Palace, but on a 3:4 scale.
