Hayedo de Montejo

El otro día tuve la oportunidad de visitar el Hayedo de Montejo, famoso por ser el único en Madrid y por las "rarezas" que esconde, como robles de especies únicas, acebo o simplemente la existencia de hayas, que ya es una rareza de por sí, dado el clima de la zona. La mejor época para verlo es en otoño ya que la mezcla de colores es impresionante. Además, se visita siempre con un guía que, durante 1 hora y media, cuenta historias interesantes sobre el hayedo y su aparición. El único problema es que es realmente complicado visitarlo. Tienen un número de pases que reservan por teléfono o internet y otro número de pases que se otorgan presencialmente en la oficina de turismo del pueblo de Montejo en el mismo día que pretendes hacer la visita. En el caso de las reservas por teléfono o internet, ¡te dan cita para dentro de 6 meses!. Por eso, la mejor opción es ir presencialmente, y conviene madrugar mucho porque si llegas y ya no hay pases te quedas sin verlo. La opción para los privilegiados es que, si vais con alguien que sea vecino del pueblo, pasáis al hayedo sin necesidad de vivir la aventura "en busca del pase perdido". En conclusión, a pesar de que es difícil entrar, merece la pena ir al menos una vez a verlo, preferiblemente en otoño, sobre todo si vivís cerca de Madrid. No os arrepentiréis, así que id pidiendo vuestros pases para el año que viene ;-)

Este hayedo de sólo 250 Hectáreas situado junto al río Jarama, tiene un valor ecológico incalculable. La fragilidad del entorno justifica que su disfrute esté absolutamente regulado y controlado. La visita guiada es gratuita, pero solicitar cita previa para visitarlo en otoño se antoja misión imposible. Así pues, la única alternativa es la reserva presencial. Caminamos atentos, vigilantes, como si detrás de cada seta pudiera aparecer un duende. Aquí los árboles mueren de pie, rodeados de pequeños arbolitos, a los que se mima con cariño, cuidando el futuro del bosque. Los rojos combinan a la perfección con los ocres, los amarillos y los dorados. Contemplamos asombrados el Haya de la Roca, auténtica reina del bosque. El rumor del río nos acompaña. No vemos corzos ni jabalíes, pero sentimos su presencia. Hora y media después, termina nuestro asombroso paseo. Volvemos a Madrid, sintiéndonos un poquito montaraces, con el premio de un fantástico bosque impresionista grabado en nuestra memoria.

Las fotos que pongo no son muy vistosas pero el invierno ha sido muy seco.

Sin embargo si se va en época estival y sobre todo entre semana lo más seguro es que se consigan los pases en el Centro de Información que existe a las afuera de Montejo de la sierra.

Decidimos explorar este hermoso bosque de hayas en el norte de Madrid. Hoy en día, a toda esta zona se le conoce como Sierra del Rincón y alberga los tres hayedos más importantes de la zona centro: Hayedo de Montejo, Hayedo de la Quesera y Hayedo de Tejera negra. El Hayedo de Montejo: Fagus sylvatica o Haya es lo que hace de este pequeño rincón uno de los más visitados del Sistema Central. Junto con las grandes extensiones de Irati (Navarra) y Ordesa (Huesca), esta porción de 250 hectáreas protegidas, suponen los únicos hayedos puros de la península. Compuesto por dos montes de propiedad vecinal, el Chaparral y la Solana, la explotación ganadera finaliza con las últimas cortas en el año 1960. Al año siguiente se veda la entrada de ganado y se empieza a utilizar con objetivos educativos y científicos, además del importante desarrollo local. En 1988 se establece el control de entradas ya que anteriormente, el 10 de octubre de 1974 se declara Sitio Natural de Interés Nacional. A partir de ese momento comienza a adquirir fama mundial, siendo hoy en día muy difícil acceder al hayedo en otoño ya que se encuentran muy restringidas las entradas. EXCURSION POR LOS ALREDEDORES Partiremos de El Cardoso de la Sierra, donde comienza nuestra excursión. Situado en el margen izquierdo del río Jarama el GR-88 nos conducirá por todo el lateral del hayedo pudiendo admirar todo su colorido desde el exterior. No obstante, en nuestro camino tendremos la posibilidad de visitar algunas haya emblemáticas. Desde aquí nuestra excursión nos llevará al nacimiento del río Jarama, emblemático para la Comunidad de Madrid y que nace en las estribaciones de la Peña Cebollera o Pico de las Tres Provincias. Desde lo más alto (1771m) las vistas del Hayedo son impresionantes. Desde aquí por la orilla derecha del Jarama y ya metidos entre hayas podemos volver hacia nuestro punto de salida. Sin duda la más espectacular es el acebo, protegido por su fama en época de navidad. También tendremos la posibilidad de ver cerezos silvestres, y majuelos además de melojo, endrinos y algún roble. Si tenemos suerte y realizamos el camino en silencio es muy probable que nos salte algún Corzo o que podamos ver correr algún jabalí a lo lejos.
