1 review of Hanam's

Good prices and atmosphere

Excellent

If you have been in Scotland (and the UK in general) you may have noticed how difficult it is to find a restaurant that is open late, which can be a problem for us Italians, ve like to eat late without being rushed. You can choose to adapt to the Scottish timetable (keeping in mind that pub kitchens close at 20:30), or you can be a rebel and look for a place from 21.00 to 21.30 that will serve you. Hanam's is located a short walk from Edinburgh Castle and opens late, as well as providing a cuisine that is different. The staff is lovely and helpful, even if there is a long queue of people ve want to enter. The room is simple, with some Middle Eastern details like carpets, silver and massive wooden planks.

The menu is really interesting and proposes bold combinations of sweet and salty, spicy and fragrant, while remaining delicate and refined compared to the flavors of Indian cuisine. I tried the vine rolls, more than anything to see the difference compared to both Greek and Lebanese food, and in fact the filling is much more nuanced, as it leaves out the flavor of the particular grape leaves. A plate of qaysi, which is the typical Middle Eastern flat loaf served with fragrant rice and a sauce made of dried apricots, raisins, tomato sauce and cashew, is very unique yet refined. Or try the chicken biryani, or pieces of chicken breast marinated with herbs, spices, raisins and dried fruit. The selection of kebabs is rich. And if you want you can also smoke hookah. The atmosphere is friendly, cheerful and sly. Recommended because its simplicity will amaze you - and at unbeatable prices!
