Haddington
Between Edinburgh and the area that forms the border between Scotland and England, I encountered quite a number of people who were quite unknown to tourism, especially this lesser-known part of Scotland. This is the case with Haddington, which is the main town of the region known as East Lothian. Historically it's an interesting town that was founded during the 6th and 7th centuries on English soil that was later declared Scottish Carham after the Battle of the 11th century. While certainly the most remarkable local event is being birthplace of the great Scottish king Alexander II. It has buildings of great value, like the Church of Santa Maria or Nungate Bridge, which are both medieval.
