One example of the new post-war Mostar...
One example of the new post-war Mostar is the new Gymnasium, the grammar school of the city. It is a huge and majestic building built in the Austro-Hungarian style, decorated with elaborate arabesques reminiscent of the east. After the damages of the war of 1993-95, today it has been completely rebuilt, and stands as a stark symbol in the square, with bombed buildings on either side. It has become a symbol of rebirth, painted in vibrant colours that seem to express a hope for the next generations and the future.
