A great place to visit
Gueliz is one of the new neighborhoods built by the French in the past century, outside the medieval medina of Marrakech. It is out of the medina, and a drastic change from the environment that you'll find in the rest of the city ... you'll find yourself back in the XXI century, in the European side of the city. Its main thoroughfare is the Avenue Mohamed V, which houses cafes and shops. It also features some beautiful colonial houses with beautiful gardens.
Despite being outside the medina, it's painted all red, the characteristic color of the city, like the medina. It is here where you'll find the hotels and other modern facilities for Europeans and the upper class and upper middle class of Marrakech.
