Hermanus, once a small fishing town is now one of the whale watching capitals of the world. It is easy to understand why, to see whales you do not need to take a boat, you just need a pair of binoculars and to find a comfortable bench on the cliff top path. This means you can watch as many whales as you want for as long as you want.
Between June and December southern right whales come in to Hermanus Bay to mate, calve and rear their young. This makes for excellent viewing possibilities. If you are having problems locating the whales keep an ear open for the official whale caller with his kelp horn
