Tixkokob Habanero Farms

The habanero chile pepper is the most famous fruit to be found in the Yucatan Peninsula, and even more so due to the fact that it has recently obtained the "designation of origin" title. There are a total of 4 of these greenhouses, which are located on your way to a village near the city of Merida called Tixcocob, about 5 minutes away from the outskirts of the city. It is not the typical tourist attraction, but if you get in touch with the owners they will gladly give you a tour of the site and answer all your questions. It is of great interest to see the operation of the greenhouses, they use a hydroponic system of Israeli technology.
