7 reviews of Grand Prismatic Spring

A view of the spring from above

Before I visited Yellowstone in 2011 I had seen the famous image from National Geographic of the Grand Prismatic from the air. Well, I did not have the funds to charter a plane but I wanted to get a good photo of the spring. My first visit was both awe inspiring and disappointing because at ground level it was difficult to photograph the spring in a way that did it justice.

I learned the next day that the hill behind the spring was accessible by a rugged trail. My wife and niece and I climbed to the top of the hill to take this shot. It may not be the same as the aerial image but I am

Quite proud of this image because it turned out well and because of what I had to do to get the shot.

A nice walk

To see this geyser in Yellowstone, I recommend that you climb the hill in front. You'll walk for about 20 minutes among roe deer and buffalo, until you reach the geyser.
