Grand Bassin du Canal
The Grand Bassin du Canal du Midi is a lake that is located at the foot of the town of Castelnaudary, bringing the sea to this small French town. It is part of the Canal du Midi which is a navigable river which runs through the south of France and that attracts many tourists because it is so easy to navigate. Many tourists like to bring houseboats to these parts. At the lake you will see many ducks that come in groups. There is tons of nature to enjoy here. Around the lake there are many people walking, bicycling. I recommend a walk along the lake because you will see a lot of beautiful boats. Also, when you reach a bridge, you can take the main street of the town up and go walking around until you get back round the lake.
If you go in the fall and winter months, I recommend you dress warmly because it is very cold and very wet. The sunsets are spectacular and the views of the town with the church are just unbeatable. In addition, the lake is so big it looks like Castelnaudary was floating on it. If you have a car it is super easy to get to this part of the lake. Although you don't have permission to sail, you can rent a boat to see this Canal.
