great wine list
Gordon's Wine Bar, one of the first bars to serve wine in England (quintessential beer country) back in 1890, is arguably one of the most charming places in London. The stairs in the entrance, quite narrow and vertical, scare quite a few people. But the real surprise comes later when you're in a cave full of tables with candles. It is worth taking a look at the wine list where the 5 continents have their fair share of representation; You'll be tempted to try something new. If you're not sure what to order, ask at the bar or choose one of the wines they suggest on the board next to it. For me it's the best, to share a bottle with friends on a summer evening and enjoy it in the cool side alley.
It is also in a very central location, about 5 minutes or less from Trafalgar and even really close to the metro stop Embankment. So if you fancy going for a walk along the river afterwards and want to enjoy the views from the river it's a perfect place to start the walk.
