Hiking & Camping at Goat Lake
Goat Lake is located approximately 7km from the Red Rock Canyon Parking lot, and can be accomplished as a Day Hike or as an overnight camping trip (tent sites must be reserved well in advance, as there are only 4 of them). The first 5km of the hike are more of a nature walk on a slightly inclining gravel pathway, but once you hit the trail turnoff for Goat Lake, prepare to get your heart pumping! The tough climb rewards you with stunning views, a beautiful waterfall, and a gorgeous lake that is swimmable in the warmer months, although it was still surrounded by snow while we were there in mid-July.
You can also fish at Goat Lake - although a National Park Fishing Permit is required. Good boots are recommended for this hike as the last bit can be quite treacherous, and it is equally as challenging on the descent. Be sure to carry bear spray on this trail.
