Great food that has a Mediterannean touch
In areas of the Croatian coast, and here in Pula, Croatian cuisine has a Mediterranean touch, but they don´t taste much like the Greeks or Italians. They have something special, a uniqueness. The base of the food is a lot of fruit and veggies, cooked on the grill with olive oil and herbs. In the area of Istria, the specialty is truffles. But if you try this, it is best go to a place that is recommended by the people that live there, or by your guide because you can try the best and the worst. In supermarkets, there is a lot of meat, hams and dried sausages, like those of Italian pastramis. The most famous cheeses are sheep, like Paski Sir, on the island of Pag which is said that as it is near the ocean the cheese is saltier and gives a special flavor to their milk, and cheese.
