A historic park
The gardens of the Plaza de Compostela or more specifically "La Alameda", are located in the heart of the city, near the sea. They are surrounded by cafes, and within walking distance of Old Town. The Alameda is a historic park built in the late nineteenth century on land reclaimed from the sea. The design has changed over the years, and today it consists of a large central hall with a beautiful fountain. There are beautiful flowers in spring, and the trees offer a great place to relax in the shade on a hot day. There are also lovely stone statues on display, some by notable Galician sculptors.
