Not very well known, but a must see
Without a doubt, one of the many must-see sites in Madrid is the Sorolla Museum. It’s not as well known as the other emblematic tourist attractions in Madrid, like the Royal Palace, the Plaza Mayor or the Prado Museum, but it has some really nice sites to offer visitors.
Sorolla, inspired by the famous gardens like those of the the Alhambra’s Generalife in Granada or Sevilla’s Royal Palace, designed this small garden, creating a more than pleasant nook in Madrid.
When you go through the gate that separates the building from the house of the central Madrid street on which it’s located (37 General Martínez Campos street), you’ll feel like you were taken to an Andalusian garden, where nooks like these are abundant.
A bank of rocks decorated with tiles, small fountains with flowing water running through tiny canals, classic statues, and lush trees are some of the elements that make up the Sorolla Museum’s garden.
During you subsequent visit to the museum, stop by the glass covered balcony in the old Sorolla house’s hall, and you can enjoy beautiful views of the garden from an entirely different perspective.
The Sorolla Museum is open Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 9:30 AM to 8 PM and Sundays from 10 AM to 3 PM. It is closed Mondays.
