Funeral and sacrifice of buffalos
Although it may seem a little strange to go to a funeral in Tana Toraja, it really isn´t. Funerals have become a real public spectacle here and are accessible to strangers and foreigners, usually in exchange for small gifts for the family, like snuff. The funeral I attended in Malikirri was for a very rich man so the family did not ask gifts. The funeral lasted 10 days. I went during the last day in which about 15 buffalo were killed in a bloody ceremony.
