Monistrol is about 175 meters above sea level. There's a change in altitude of about 550 meters. We took a train to Monistral from the Barcelona Generalitat station in Plaça Espanya. Once in Monistrol, we went to the large Plaza de la Font where the red and white road signs begin. We climbed up Montserrat, which is a very busy route, and reached the monastery in about 2 hours. A portion of the road is composed of a flight of stairs with a considerable slope.
