Located along the St. John River, the Christ Church Cathedral in Fredericton is one of the reasons which led to this city to become the provincial capital. Indeed, although smaller than the coastal city of Saint John, with the proximity of the enemy (aka the United States) prompted the British cardinal to choose this location for the first cathedral ever built in Canada. The bell tower, rebuilt after its collapse, has a chime that can be played from the choir of the church.
