The fort which was converted into a viewing point
At the end of the promenade along the beach of Armacao de Pera, lies what was once Fort San Antonio de Pedra da Gale, more frequently referred to as Fortaleza and Armacao de Pera. It was originally built in the 15th Century as a defensive building. In the 18th Century, it was enlarged and strengthened for the defense of the continued pirate attacks. Nowadays, there is not much left of the fort, only the chapel which was built in honor of its patron saint, so it has been renovated into a viewpoint from where you can enjoy views of the beach.
