The entrance to San Francisco Bay
Fort Point is located at the entrance to San Francisco Bay, on the south side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Built just before the Civil War, the fort was designed to protect San Francisco from enemy ships. It's not just a historical site, though, it's also a great place to go for some fresh air, admire the views, and see the spectacular surf when there are good waves under the bridge. And it's free!
