An unusual disaster
We often think of Scotland as a wet and foggy place, and it's true that if you're going here you should never forget your raincoat and umbrella. So we were surprised to find that forest fires ravaged the Highlands during the spring of 2011! Indeed, the spring that year was particularly dry, and in May the fires spread across Scotland. We saw fire trucks everywhere, although fortunately the fires spread slowly, so they were able to save a lot. But still, thousands of hectares went up in smoke...
