Fontana della Palla

Che ecletticità, per il materiale simbolo del Lazio, il travertino. E' di questo materiale che è costruita la sfera all'interno della fontana di Piazza del Popolo, a Latina. Dietro l'insolita forma (per una fontana), una precisa idea, quella della memoria della trasformazione continua del territorio pontino. Ma secondo una leggenda è anche la porta di accesso del mondo degli dei che vivono sotto terra ed è una specie di tappo. Se questo si dovesse 'stappare', non sarebbe una buona cosa...Secondo un'altra storia, se la sfera dovesse spostarsi o peggio, uscire fuori dalla sua fontana, sarebbe la fine! In realtà il monumento è del 1939 e, nel suo circondario di ciottoli di fiume, mattoncini, pezzetti di basalto, rappresenta la geometria e l'ordine dei giardini all'italiana. Qui, un 'nuovo' ordine, per la città emblema dell'architettura razionalista.
