Beautiful, natural environment
Next to the recreation area of Parque das Taipas , on the banks of the river Ave, is the "beach of Guimaraes". It's a beautiful, natural environment with walking trails, a picnic area with tables and stone benches, and a beach bar. The waters are very calm and completely transparent, and it has a white sandy shore, which must have been brought from the coast. It was very busy the day we visited, but I was surprised to see that no one was swimming. The people were just spending a day in the countryside. Along the river, there is a sign indicating the different types of fish, plus you could see ducks swimming placidly along. The Roman bridge spanning the river is a National Monument. It's 50 meters from the beach.

Located just 50m from the beach is a Roman bridge, that crosses the Ave River and is a National Monument.
