Chapel of the Flagellation
Climbing the stairway that crosses Mount Espinho is this another chapel, part of the Cross (or Via Sacra). Like the others on the way, it's a small, hexagonal chapel with statues inside depicting a scene from the Passion of Christ. In this case, the Chapel of the Flagellation, shows a single figure, the stature of Christ bound in a marble pillar, flogged, with a golden crown on his head. The interior walls are decorated with murals depicting the city, opposite the Palace of the Governor Pontius Pilate.
