It is one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the coast of Asturias, from where you can see the mountain and the sea at the same time. On clear days you will be able to see the Picos de Europa. It is located on the road that goes from Arriondas to Colunga. You can’t miss it.
We found it by mistake. It was our last day in Asturias and we spent it driving around without any particular place in mind. We saw a sign that said “Mirador El Fitu” so we went to see what lay there. It is a good thing we did. The views are a real marvel…there are no words; even if the day was foggy it was worth it. You must go.
The Fitu viewpoint is unknown to many, and it is a great visual and emblematic experience.
Go to Colunga (Aturias), take the road towards Arriondas and in km 11 it is found inside the mountain range El Sueve, with an altitude of 1,100 meters, which creates a very particular vision of a great part of the coast of Asturias. The clouds come from the sea and stop there, offering wonderful views form the viewpoint, of mountains, towns, sea, fog and great distances. Everything at the same time.
From that same place you can see more than 100 kilometers of coast, from Caravia to Faro de Peñas. If you turn, you can observe the great mountains of the Cantabria range, the Picos de Europa and the area that surrounds the Lakes of Covadonga.
The Fitu viewpoint is, without a doubt, the most impressive place of the region of Sueve. We went there two times, but it was foggy, so finally, before leaving Asturias we were able to discover the treasure that the viewpoint was hiding.
Its location lets you see the coast of Cantabria and the Picos de Europa, as well as municipalities such as Ribadesella, Caravia, Colunga and Parres. We stayed for a few moments with our eyes open, enjoying the breeze and the view, as if we wanted to retain in our heads this spectacular vision. Unforgettable…
To get to this viewpoint, your best bet is to take the AS-260 highway from Arriondas. There are lots of curves and gorgeous views on the way to the viewpoint. Once you get to the top, you'll be left speechless: one one side you have the sea and on the other, the Picos de Europa. If you're lucky and the weather is good, you're guaranteed to have amazing views.
