Fish Market

The fish market in Athens is next to the meat market, in the Agora. It covers two long aisles filled with baskets and boxes full of seafood. There are dozens of types of fish for sale. A few years ago the hygienic conditions were not at their best, and the Greek government received a slap on the wrist for the shop displays. It was ordered to improve the handling of food in the markets. The market is 100 years ago. If you go to the fish market I advise to wear shoes, walking shoes if possible, because the floor is rather wet, with a mixture of melted ice and "liquid fish". The fish stalls are a wonder as you can enjoy buying your food so close to its origin, choosing the freshest fish and varieties you want.
