Lavender fields

All the fields surrounding the town of Sault, Provence, France, are "colored" lavender ..... This area is dedicated to this plant, which is native to the Mediterranean. The name "lavender" comes from the Latin lavare. As well as it's exquisite aroma, lavender is said to have many medicinal qualities, it can be used to heal wounds, to relieve pain with its oil, for muscle pain, to relieve stress, etc.. Sault is situated on a large woody plateau, surrounded by fields blooming with beautiful lavender flowers mixed with wheat. The combination of violet and yellow makes for a beautiful landscape indeed.

In the middle of the fields there are some small houses called "Buries", built entirely of stone and very rustic, adding to the charm of the area. We went there by car, not to stop at Sault but a spa 65 km away. From Avignon we drove around the countryside a little regretting not being able to stop, because we were tight for time. ... And we had are other things planned. But if you have time it would be lovely and peaceful, there are only about 1200 people there, a great place to stop for the night and appreciate something beautiful.

Being near to one of these fields, breathing the scent of lavender and hearing the hum of bees is an experience to remember ...
