The star of the Berchtesgaden National Park

Undoubtedly, the star of the Berchtesgaden National Park is fascinating Koenigssee, a lake of great beauty and tranquil dark waters that's completely surrounded by imposing mountains almost 3,000 meters tall. There is a whole fleet of electric ferries (they don't pollute or make noise) that circulate across the lake from end to end every 20 minutes. For me, it is an almost mandatory ride, especially if you consider that it is the only way to access the fascinating monastery of St. Bartholomew, a beautiful church with striking red domes, which together with the surrounding mountains, makes for a perfect postcard.

It is also the only way to reach the nearby Lake Obersee and the routes that you can do from there. Boats depart from the Koenigsee ferry terminal. You can buy different tickets at the ticket booth, ranging from single round-trip tickets to tickets combined with the Jennerbahn (Mt. Jenner cable car) for a good price(33€ per person).

A little curiosity: the acoustics of the lake are very unusual, and it's very interesting to ask the captain of the boat to demonstrate the echo in the middle of the lake. If you're lucky enough to find him a good mood, you can even hop on the horn and give it a try (see video). He'll ask for a tip later, of course.
