Royal palace without royalty
The Falkland Royal Palace was built in the sixteenth century, in the beautiful medieval village with the same name. It was conceived as a hunting lodge for the kings of the Stuart family, the most famous being Mary Stuart, better known as Mary Queen of Scots. She spent the best days of her childhood within the walls of this palace, which explains the existence of the grounds which includes some of the oldest tennis in the UK. Today it is one of the town's main attractions and it is managed by the Scottish National Trust, who organizes the visits and care of this impressive building. Worth a visit, the palace and the area, which can seem like you're in the Middle Ages.
