Finger-licking good!
So, there are two Ethiopian restaurants on Manuela Malasaña St., one is Nuria (it looks like a nightclub from the outside), and the other is Mesob (it looks like what it is...a wonderful Ethiopian restaurant). Without going into too much detail, I'll just say that Mesob is definitely the better of the two in terms of food, service, and atmosphere.
The basis of Ethiopian cuisine in "injera," a spongy flatbread that they use for both plate and utensil. Your food comes served on a fluffy bed in injera and you tear off little corners and use it to scoop up your food. If you're new to Ethiopian food, you're best bet is Doro Wat, a savory and spicy dish of chicken in an addictive red sauce. However, the real star of Mesob's menu is the spicy raw meat (it has some unpronounceable name, but just ask your waiter). It's high-grade lean beef served 100% raw with aromatic spices. You can get it alone or with a side of Ethiopian-style cream spinach, something I'd recommend to kill some of the spice. It's velvety and delicious. Absolutely incredible!
