Estátua de Dom João I

Dom João I viveu entre 1357 e 1433 e foi Rei de Portugal, o primeiro da Dinastia de Avis, de 1385 até à sua morte, sucedendo a Dom Fernando. Tinha o cognome de "o da Boa Memória" e era filho ilegítimo de Dom Pedro I. A estátua, em sua homenagem está localizada na Praça da Figueira, uma praça paralela à Praça do Rossio, no centro de Lisboa. É uma estátua equestre, o rei a cavalo, em bronze, assente num pedestal em pedra. A escultura é da autoria do artista Leopoldo de Almeida e data de 1971, a mesma data da inauguração do monumento.

John I lived between 1357 and 1433 and was King of Portugal, the first of the Avis Dynasty, 1385 until his death, succeeding Don Fernando. He had the nickname of "the Good Memory" and was the illegitimate son of Dom Pedro I. The statue in his honor is located in Praça da Figueira, a parallel square at Rossio Square in downtown Lisbon. It is an equestrian statue of the king on horseback, in bronze, based on a pedestal in stone. The sculpture is by the artist Leopoldo de Almeida and 1971 date, the same date of the inauguration of the monument.
