Culture is happening now!
Espacio Ananas is an art gallery and concept store which has recently relocated from traditional La Latina to the heart of Madrid’s hip Malasaña neighborhood. The gallery has an interesting concept in that it actively promotes and works with young artists and a young public and tries to make the gallery experience fun, accessible, and inspiring. However, that’s not to say that the works aren’t of the same quality as those found hanging in some of Madrid’s stuffier galleries.
For example, when we went we saw exhibit called “Yo, Paso” by the artists Susana Lopez. The works were drawings done in pen and marker (as far as I could tell) and seemed to be a perfect summation of Western millennial life (the portrait of the psychiatrist and the rich mother with the “what boyfriend?” quote were especially good). Each drawing was tacked up on the wall with hot pink duct tape, a signal to the ethos at Ananas.
