Enoshima is difficult to describe. It's an island with a bridge that you can get to by foot from the train station with the same name. It's in Kamakura, a few stations beyond the great Buddha station. What is perhaps not so clear, nor is easy to describe, is the magic that surrounds every rock, every tree, and every corner. It's a small island where you can climb the mountain. Souvenir shops will welcome you, but it's not until you get to the stairs of the first temple that you realize that the best is yet to come. In the sky, there are eaglets that make sure you don't touch any of the cats that live there, the trees open up to the path leading to statues of dragons, turtle-shaped stones, and to where couples put locks with their names on them, promising to love one another forever while watching the sea.
