Eldfell

Desde la ciudad de Heimaey, en la isla Vestmannaeyjar, hay una pequeña excursión de unos 2 kilómetros hasta la cima del volcán Eldfell. Este volcán surgió de la nada en 1973, ocasionando la destrucción casi total de la ciudad antigua, que hoy yace bajo la lava del volcán solidificada. La ciudad se volvió a reconstruir al lado de la sepultada por la lava. La ascensión es corta pero intensa, aunque vale la pena, ya que desde la cima (221 metros), se divisa toda la isla y hay unas vistas increíbles. Desde arriba te das cuenta de lo terrible de la erupción, ya que hasta el cráter del volcán se destrozó, y aun más, te das cuenta de lo cerca que queda en el tiempo la erupción, que aún hoy en la cima, te puedes hacer unos chuletones del calor que desprende por unos pequeños agujeros.

From the town of Heimaey in Vestmannaeyjar Island, a small hike about 2 miles to the summit of the volcano Eldfell. This volcano out of nowhere in 1973, resulting in the almost total destruction of the ancient city, now lies beneath the volcano lava solidified.
