A bullfighting arena
Badajoz's bullring is on the periphery of the historical centre, opposite the Baluarte de Santa Maria. Here, bullfighting shows take place, especially during local festivities, such as San Juan (late June). It was inaugurated in 1967 to replace the old bullring; it is privately owned by the Martinez Elizondo-Flamarique family, and has a capacity for 13,000 spectators.
