El Ensanche Neighborhood

Bilbao's old town redevelopment is called "Eixample", and although there were several projects completed in the old town since 1801, none were finished until 1876. The designs are by architects Achúcarro, Alzola and Hoffmeyer. The streets that make up this neighbourhood are La Gran Vía, Plaza Elliptical, Indautxu, and Ercilla, Rekalde and Elcano. They are the main shopping and finance streets in the city, and there are also buildings such as the Provincial Council, the headquarters of the Bilbao Society, the Gothic church of San Vicente Martir, Chavarri Palace, and Casa Montero. The homes of these
