Eiffel Bridge
This bridge is one of the most important and characteristic symbols around Saint Louis. It was designed by Gustave Eiffel, the man that designed the so-named tower in Paris. It connects the mainland to the small island in the middle of the city. It is a structure of seven arches with radii tens of iron and is defined by as many stone pillars as the Senegal River. It has a one-way lane back and sidewalks for pedestrians. Perhaps the highlight of this bridge is the interesting way it is shaped. It is a very modernized bridge in terms of its regard to its surroundings. However, although somewhat out of tune, it acts as a symbol and has been very well preserved and maintained.
It is the most important step, if not the only, linking both sides, for without it people were cut off and had to cross by canoe. On its banks every day boys jump from the piers to the river whether it's safe or not. They're just kids.
