World Heritage Site in Montenegro
This national park is in the region of the Dinaric Alps, but this time in Montenegro. It is a world heritage site, and was declared so by UNESCO in 1980, when it was still part of the republic of Yugoslavia. It was formed by ancient glaciers, which now have no ice, but it is very green with underground rivers and lakes. It is the deepest canyon in Europe, by the river Tara, which measures 1900m deep, where golden eagles and falcons can be spotted. The landscape contains alpine lakes and conifers, as though you were in the Swiss Alps. The park has many problems with poaching, mostly from people in neighbouring countries, not so much from the people inside the park.
