Georgian period building
Duff House is a Georgian period building in the center of Banff, and is the main attraction. It is currently government care(Historic Scotland) and belongs to the Art Galleries of Scotland, due to the impressive collection of paintings it houses (including works by Domenico Teocotopoulos: El Greco). This townhouse was designed by architect William Adam under William Duff of Braco (Earl of Fife)orders and was completed in 1740 after years of disputes. The house didn't follow the original design because of the last fight between the architect and the owner of the house. Today it's is one of the most important examples of this type of mansions (and in reality is quite impressive).
After the family fell from grace, the house was converted into a hotel, a psychiatric hospital and even prisoners of war jail, leaving this stunning mansion in a sorry state. The good news is that the construction and interior designs were well documented that allowed restorers do work identical to the original, which is reflected in the visit to this mansion. Today, you can rent it to celebrate a wedding in style at astronomical costs. However I keep the house and visit as essential, outside and inside.
